I am a volunteer photographer at the San Jacinto Animal Campus, where I photograph these precious animals in the hope of finding them homes. I photograph them, then post the photos on the shelter’s Facebook page. I was inspired to create this mosaic while sifting through the many pictures I have taken over the years. I check the website to see which, if any of these dogs, have been adopted. I can’t explain the joy I feel when one of the dogs goes to their furever home. You would have to travel the journey I have been on with these beautiful creatures; every one of them tells a story, with a sadness in their eyes. Humans have let them down, yet they still yearn to be part of a loving family, to have a home of their own. This journey has not been an easy one. The shelter dogs love the hugs and attention they get when they are exercised before the photoshoot, then their cute faces are wiped clean, prepping them to get their picture taken. They long for affection and when it is time to return them to their kennels, they don’t want to leave. So, when I see that one has been adopted, my heart jumps with joy. This experience inspired me to create this beautiful mosaic. The dog featured in this piece is a puppy I adopted from the shelter. Her name is Kiara, and I love her with all my heart. I hope this piece of art, along with my story, will inspire you to support your local shelter by adopting, donating, or even volunteering. Together, we can make a difference. Remember, “Love waits…” Thank you to the Riverside County Animal Services Volunteer Coordinators, San Jacinto Valley Animal Campus staff, and volunteers who support the photo shoots. Your help makes a difference for the shelter animals. Donna Chavez
